Machine of Rhythms

Explain how the Machine of Rhythms might be implemented in this production.

  1. As I was unable to attend the rehersal on Thursday 7th of March I was unaware of what Machines of rythms are, so I was taught the following day by Jess and Blessing and I thought the could be used to express of perhaps exxagerate the power of the car. After all it is a machine that can cause seriouse harm when it is not opperated properly, and certain what this technique does is stop people think of a car and has them thinking of lets say the automobile which I think carries more of the stories of road inncidents with it. Therefor I would suggest we used this techinque to highlight it is not just a car but a dengerous object to renforce the message.

  2. "Cars don't kill people. People kill people."
I know that's not the actual quote but I think it can be applied.
Yeah, furthering what Liam said, I like the double-entendre of 'machine' and 'car'. I think the use of the Machine of Rhythm would be best served as a way to detract the story from real life, thus, causing a less naturalist view of the piece. For this end I think it would be best served towards the end, if not at the end, as a kind of summary. I feel that using it too early on may cause the audience - especially due to them being around the age of 10 - to sit back and think "What on earth is going on here?".

    2. I love that quote "Cars don't kill people. People kill people." it could be used as a motto for our performance. When we think of machine of rhythms and how it could be implemented into out performance is very challenging although it is simple and effective to use for audience purposes, instead of a known language sounds could be used to communicate to the audience as it makes them interpret what they believe is happening without being told which could aid them with understanding and connecting with the actions that are taking place. Using machine of rhythms at the end would work a lot better.

    3. I really like your idea dan i think it works much better in our performance towards the end, cause i think if we did use it at the begging the audience will end up confused and wont be able to understand the message we are trying to portray threw our full performance. i really like you quotes "cars don't kill people. people kill people" and i also like you quote from the other day aswell dan the "you can pick up your phone but you carn't pick up your life".

i aslo like your idea bee as using it as our motto for the performance.

    4. Sorry I've been off, my father's been quite ill recently and I really don't want to leave him. In the mean time I've been scanning through the blog to pick up what I can.

As for Daniel's statements, they do seem very nice. Sometimes pithy motto like that can really affect a performance. The "Cars don't kill people, people kill people" statement does seem like a good one; it hammers home the responsibility of others to ensure their, and other people's, safety. At the end of the day, it may be a car that has hit you, or the absence of a seatbelt, but surely there's something more -you- could have done?

We don't want to create a culture of blame, but foster a culture of responsibility.
